With most things in life, we find we have to deal with legalities. Marriage is one of those occasions when we need to face this. There are documents and time frames for these to be sighted and prepared.
You must both be over the age of 18 years at the time of your marriage.
You will be required to complete a Notice of Intention to Marry form. This must be lodged with your celebrant between a maximum of 18 months and a minimum of 1 month and 1 day (ie no less than one calendar month) prior to the date of your marriage You can download the NOIM at the following URL www.ag.gov.au/celebrants
If you were born in Australia you will be required to produce an original birth certificate or an extract. Copies of birth certificates or an Australian passports is not acceptable
If you were born overseas, you will be required to produce your birth certificate and/or passport.
In the event that either party has previously been married, then you will be required to produce the appropriate papers. I will advise which these are.
If either party has a deceased spouse, then a death certificate is required
You will also be required to have two (2) witnesses to your marriage who are both over the age of 18 years.
If you have any further questions regarding the legal requirements I will be more than happy to assist you.
